I am so excited to be able to share the ebook cover of Boğaz’daki Altın Kafes with you all.
And to announce that after some delay, Boğaz’daki Altın Kafes will be available to download on 13th October 2021. Just three weeks from today!
So, what do you think of the cover? Please let me know. I hope you like it as much as I do. From the outset I wanted the cover to feel unequivocally Ottoman in design so I chose a period photograph of the Çırağan Palace, for which I am incredibly grateful to the Pera Museum and the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation for granting me permission to reproduce, and I included the classic tulip motif at the top. The deep waters of the Bosphorus flow in the foreground – the currents dangerous, and the tides continuously changing. I love the colour turquoise (it reminds me of the crystal clear, warm waters of the Aegean sea) and I think that the simple colour palette is fresh and pretty. And finally, the faded background of the towering locked iron gate, that guards the entrance to the Çırağan Palace, is a subtle reminder that the palace was my family’s gilded cage for so long… Every element has a meaning; each has a purpose.
Publication Date
I chose the publication date of Boğaz’daki Altın Kafes with great care. My story begins on 13th October 1903, with the birth at the Çırağan Palace of a baby prince named Ali Vâsıb Efendi – my beloved grandfather… It seemed only natural that the first Turkish edition of my book be released in his honour on his birthday. I think it would make him smile, and I hope it would make him proud.
So, if you have been waiting to read my story in Turkish, I thank you for your patience. You do not have much longer to wait!! In the meantime, for further updates please follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter…. And to see photographs of the characters, or pictures of the locations or inspiration of details mentioned in the book please view my Pinterest board.
